In the story John Wesley Hardin was still alive after Judge Roy Bean had been hanged by Joey Garza. However, John Wesley Hardin was killed in El Paso on August 19, 1895. Roy Bean died of a combination of alcoholism and old age at his court in Langtry in early 1903.
