Its a Mad Mad Mad Mad World - Two Places at Once
After finding the "Big W", the gang starts digging. Once the digging reaches a certain point, Mr Pike (Jonathan Winters) and Sylvester Marcus (Dick Shawn)are left to complete the digging. At this point there is a camera shot from the bottom of the hole looking up that shows the others peering down at the two working to find the 350 G's. One of these looking down into the hole is Jonathan Winters watching himself work.

I just watched this movie, and watched for the slipup. The slipup is correct. The comments by Sbobette, craig, and Edgar Huntley are incorrect. It's true that Sylvester throws Pike out of the hole, but once Sylvester finds the treasure, Pike goes back in to help him pull it out. Here are the events as the happen: There are four people digging to start. Sylvester kicks two of them out, leaving himself and Pike. Sylvester then throws Pike out and digs alone. A shot from below shows all the people, including Pike looking in the hole. Sylvester finds the treasure. Pike goes in to help Sylvester pull it out. Another shot from below shows all the people, once again including Pike, looking in the hole. We then see Sylvester and Pike continuing to pull the treasure out of the hole. I do agree that this is a great movie.

I'm sorry, I have watched this movie every year for 12 years and I will continue to, as it is my favorite movie. I know this has already been posted, but I simply must state this myself, if you watch the movie you will clearly see that Sylvester throws Mr. Pike out of the hole before the scene of the competitors looking into the hole. Thanks.

Correct. Sylvester tells Pike that he's "bugging" him and says "clear out, clear out". When Pike questions him, he says, "Out baby, out baby, out!" When Pike gets out, you see Sylvester digging by himself with a pick. That is when it shows everyone looking down, including Pike(Jonathan Winters). This is such a funny movie; I think that Dick Shawn, Jonathan Winters and Phil Silvers "made" that movie!

Edgar Huntley writes:
This is wrong. Watching more closely, Sylvester throws Mr. Pike out of the hole and finishes himself.
